How do I know if the business category is appropriate for me?
All PBwiki wikis provide the same basic functionality, including PBwiki's ease-of-use and speed. The three different packages differ in terms of specific features that appeal to each group.
Individuals
Individuals, for example, get a basic wiki with straightforward access controls and a limited amount of storage. On the other hand, the product is free of charge, and free of ads.
Educators
Educators get a slightly different plan with features that individuals don't need, but are essential for teachers and schools, like an Acceptable Use Policy.
Businesses
Businesses get the most functionality, including increased storage, advanced access controls, and the ability to integrate with corporate single sign-on solutions like Active Directory, but are required to pay for their service once they have finished trying out the product and are using it on a regular basis for their business.
No one plan is better than the other; rather, the plans are designed to meet the different needs of the different target audiences.
Do you allow businesses to customize look & feel to match our site?
While we offer a great deal of flexibility, there are some areas of a wiki page that we do not allow to change much.
Do you offer the ability to categorize pages in a hierarchy?
There are no subdirectories at PBwiki. As long as each page in the wiki is linked to related pages or an index page, navigation is simple and logical. A link to the "All pages" view is always available, as well as the search feature.
Do you offer revision history with versioning and rollback in cases of abuse?
This is already a standard feature - with Administrative access, you can see every change ever made to a page and you can also make a comparison of page versions. Reverting to an older page revision is very simple. We also provide a downloadable zipped backup file for each wiki which the administrator can download at any time.
Do you allow comments on each article?
This is standard, but only users who are logged in may view them. We also support some third party java-script comment systems for public comments, such as www.haloscan.com.
Can we host PBwiki on our server?
No. There's a reason we host PBwiki on our servers - your data is actually safer with us. We backup your data hourly, and we're just as paranoid about your data's integrity as you are. Most IP theft and security issues happen behind the firewall, where security tends to be lax. We're fanatical about security.
Do you custom-harden your kernels?
With our hosted solution, we can roll out fixes and improvements immediately, with no extra support contract, and updates and enhancements are included free in your subscription.
How secure is the data at PBwiki?
Our servers are in a 24/7 guarded facility in an earthquake-proofed building in San Francisco, behind several layers of locked, sealed, access-controlled portals. The servers are owned and operated exclusively by a select handful of our staff, who have had checks performed on them and have signed a strict zero information disclosure policy document. We do not use third parties to manage our servers.
The servers are secured with a custom-hardened version of the Linux kernel, with a hand-tuned per-server lockdown of services and custom assembled IP firewall rules to only permit legitimate traffic. We have many companies and organizations keeping some of their most confidential data with us; if they kept it on their own shared drives at their office, there would be a significantly higher chance of exposure from a break-in. We can give you lots of examples. Please email support@pbwiki.com with your request for examples. You can also look at www.publicpbwikis.com to see some example wikis (and submit your own for others to see!).
Can I create more than one wiki with your software? For example: a wiki for customers and a wiki for internal use.
You may create as many wikis as you wish. As a Business Edition customer we are happy to provide you with blocks of wikis that you can use a global user count against.
